Rockstar Games dropped the first short trailer for "Grand Theft Auto 6" on Tuesday, marking the latest installment in the mainline Grand Theft Auto series.
Grand Theft Auto 6, touted as the biggest action-adventure game of the next year, is the sequel to 2013's mega-hit GTA V, which became the second best-selling video game of all time, following Minecraft.
Set in Vice City, the series' fictional take on Miami, the trailer prominently features a female protagonist, Lucia, who appears to embark on a crime spree with her partner.
While Rockstar Games has not revealed the plot or storyline, the song in the trailer is "Long is a Long Road" by Tom Petty.
It has been 10 years since Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto 5, and since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel. That game went on to sell 185 million copies.
GTA 5 is the second best-selling video game of all time, selling over 190 million copies worldwide, behind only Microsoft's Minecraft, which has sold over 300 million copies, according to data cited by CNBC.
New Characters in GTA 6
The trailer unveiled the game's dual protagonists, including Lucia, the series' first female hero with Latin American roots, navigating Vice City alongside her yet-to-be-named partner-in-crime. The male protagonist, previously rumored as James or Jason, maintains an evident romantic connection with Lucia as they speed through Vice City on a variety of vehicles. While other GTA 6 characters make appearances, Lucia and her partner take center stage, embodying a Bonnie and Clyde-esque relationship, complete with a daring escape in a likely stolen car.
The trailer also introduces additional GTA 6 characters, such as two unknown figures sharing an enthusiastic embrace and a scantily clad woman reveling at a rooftop lounge. The diverse cast engages in various activities for social media, capturing the essence of Florida with a touch of alligators thrown into the mix.
