Why did violence occur in Ladakh?
When the two protesters were admitted to a nearby hospital, the protesters demonstrating on the street became distraught. Angered by this incident, the protesters also began pelting stones at the Leh Hill Council building. Additional security forces were deployed to control the situation.
Sonam Wangchuk has appealed to all the people of Ladakh to protest peacefully otherwise our hard work of last 5 years will go waste
Ladakh: A protest by young demonstrators in Leh-Ladakh turned violent on Wednesday. Youth protesting on the streets also attacked a BJP office, pelted stones, and set a police vehicle on fire. According to reports, the protesters were demanding statehood and the reinstatement of Ladakh's constitutional authorities. Seeing the situation worsen, local police deployed additional forces to the protest site. The situation is currently under control.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first such clash in recent memory. On Wednesday, locals called for a Ladakh shutdown to press their demands. However, the central government has called a meeting with Ladakh representatives on October 6th to resume discussions on the demands of the people of Ladakh. Today's strike and clashes reflect the growing anger and unrest in the region.
