Due to heavy rains in Delhi-NCR, waterlogging is being seen on the roads, but now it has started affecting air travel as well. One person died after a part of the roof of T-1 of Delhi's IGI Airport collapsed. While 8 people were injured. At present, many flights have been cancelled.
A tragic accident took place at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport at 5:30 am today. A shed made of iron pillars fell on several cars parked there. One person died after being crushed under the iron pillar. While many people were injured.
Delhi Police and about four fire brigade vehicles are engaged in rescue operation on the spot. All the injured were evacuated and taken to the nearest hospital. CATs ambulance was also called on the spot. There is chaos at the airport due to the collapse of the shed and iron pillars.
Apart from the roofing sheet, the support beam also collapsed, damaging cars parked in the pick-up and drop area of the terminal, officials said. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
The Civil Aviation Minister tweeted, I am personally monitoring the roof collapse incident at Delhi Airport T1. Rescue teams are working at the spot. Airlines have been advised to assist all affected passengers at T1. The injured have been rushed to hospital. Rescue operations are still underway.
