DA Hike News: Central Govt Employees Likely To Get 3 percent

A 3 percent hike in dearness allowance and dearness relief of central government employees and pensioners was approved in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 16 October 2024. In view of the festive season, ahead of Diwali, the government has increased the dearness allowance to 53 percent, which used to be 50 percent earlier.

The central government increases the dearness allowance of 49 lakh central employees and 68 lakh pensioners twice a year. The first increase is for the period from January to June and the second for the period from July to December. At present, 50 percent dearness allowance is being given to central employees and pensioners. The decision taken by the Cabinet to increase the dearness allowance will come into effect from July 1, 2024. That is, central employees will get the salary of the month of October with arrears.

How much will be the increase in the salary of those with a basic salary of Rs 25000? :

Dearness allowance has been increased to provide relief from inflation to 1.17 crore central employees and pensioners. Suppose the basic monthly salary of a central employee is Rs 25000, then after a 3 percent increase, the dearness allowance will increase by Rs 750. Earlier, where the dearness allowance was Rs 12500, now it will increase to Rs 13250.

How much will the salary increase on basic pay of Rs 50000?:

If the basic salary of a central employee is Rs 50000, then while he was getting Rs 25000 as per 50 percent dearness allowance, after getting 53 percent dearness allowance, he will get Rs 26500. That is, the salary will increase by Rs 1500 every month. Before the Lok Sabha elections, on March 7, 2024, the dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees and pensioners were increased. If there is a decision to increase the dearness allowance, then it will benefit 49 lakh central employees and 68 lakh pensioners and this decision is estimated to put a burden of about Rs 13000 crore on the government treasury.
