The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finalised the budget for the Champions Trophy 2025. As per a report in Cricbuzz, the ICC approved a budget of around Rs 544 crore ($65 million) at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo recently.
This budget also includes the cost related to organizing some games outside Pakistan. According to the report, if the Indian team does not go to play in Pakistan, then its matches can be organized outside Pakistan under the hybrid model. These matches can be organized in UAE or Sri Lanka. That is why the budget amount has been increased so much. According to a recent report, India has decided not to play in Pakistan. However, BCCI has not given any statement on this yet.
Pakistan has been given the right to host the Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB has submitted the draft of the tournament venue to the ICC. The tournament is to be held in February-March next year. According to the draft, India has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Group B includes Australia, South Africa, England and Afghanistan. This is the first time since the ODI World Cup 1996 that Pakistan has been given the right to host an ICC event.
It was expected at the ICC meeting that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi could talk to BCCI secretary Jay Shah about the Champions Trophy 2025 being held in Pakistan, but there was no conversation with the mediator between the two boards.
The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year, for which 6 teams have agreed to go to Pakistan, but the situation regarding the Indian team's tour is not clear yet. In such a situation, the tournament can be held in a hybrid model. There was no discussion on this issue in the ICC meeting. In this, only the budget of Champions Trophy 2025 was passed.
