The election results declared on June 4 showed that the NDA did not win by a landslide as most exit polls had indicated, despite the BJP's noteworthy achievements. The Election Commission of India reports that the opposition INDIA group managed to get 231 seats, against all exit poll forecasts, while the NDA managed to secure 295 seats. To establish a government at the Centre, a party or coalition needs to win a minimum of 272 seats.
