Milton Shumba was born on 19th October 2000 in Chitungwiza situated in the Harare Province of Zimbabwe. From an early age, Milton was considered a prodigy, resulting in his talent being identified by the national selectors. They picked him for the Zimbabwe U-19 squad that was sent to the 2016 World Cup. He was just 15 at that time.
That year Shumba went on to make his T20 debut, representing Zimbabwe against Eastern Province in the Africa T20 Cup. He was dismissed on one run and the selectors realized that they could not rush him into the senior level. Shumba made his first-class debut the following year for Rising Stars in the Logan Cup and proved his credentials with an outstanding half-century in his first outing.
Milton Shumba was picked for the 2018 U-19 World Cup and continued performing consistently at the domestic level. He completed a hat-trick of U-19 World Cups in 2020 and it was finally time for the young batter to take the step up into international cricket.
A few days after returning from the World Cup, he made his List A debut for Matabeleland in the Pro50 Championship scoring a duck. Towards the end of 2020, Milton made his T20I debut against Pakistan but did not impress much with the bat. He took a wicket but proved to be very expensive indicating that bowling was not his strong suit.
2021 proved to be a good year for Milton as he made his Test debut against Pakistan at home followed by an ODI debut against Ireland away from home. Since then, he has made himself a regular in the T20I side with Zimbabwe using his attacking ability higher up the order. He bowls useful part-time off spin and Zimbabwe will be hoping he can become a mainstay of their batting order for years to come.
