Profile:

Dubbed "Harry Potter" for his youthful appearance and signature glasses, Abrar Ahmed cast a spellbinding start to his Test career, becoming only the fourth bowler in history to claim five wickets in the opening session of his debut. His remarkable seven-wicket haul against England in Multan in December 2022 quickly elevated him to Pakistan’s top spin option during a time when quality spinners were in short supply.

Abrar’s impressive run continued with a five-wicket performance against New Zealand in Karachi, followed by a standout showing in Sri Lanka, where he finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in Pakistan’s 2-0 series win.

Yet, fitness proved to be his Achilles’ heel. Abrar first made waves in the PSL back in 2017, nearly six years before earning his international cap. A lingering back injury sidelined him for several seasons, and similar issues resurfaced in his second year at the international level, forcing him out of Pakistan’s Test tour of Australia in 2023–24 due to a pinched nerve in his leg.

Despite these setbacks, Abrar remains Pakistan’s premier legspinner, especially with Yasir Shah retired and Shadab Khan yet to establish himself in the longer format.
