This is the first time in the last 18 years that five matches of a major event like the ODI World Cup will be played at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium. This beautiful cricket stadium has hosted five matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup-2023. Situated at an altitude of 1317 meters above sea level, this stadium was completed in the year 2005. The stadium has hosted matches of all forms of cricket but not a single match of the ODI World Cup has been played here so far.
All the five matches are important for the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) in terms of preparations but the proposed India-New Zealand clash on October 22 holds special significance for the spectators. One of the most beautiful stadiums in the world.
Dharamshala Stadium is one of the few beautiful cricket stadiums in the world. 22 years ago, no one had even thought that a grand cricket stadium could be built in the hilly area where there is a kingdom of bushes and terraced fields. Today the situation is such that if the city of Dharamshala is searched on the Internet, then Dharamshala Stadium comes first.
In the year 2002, when Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur was the President of HPCA, he started the work of building a stadium on the vacant land adjacent to Boys School Dharamshala. It was also completed in just three years.
By the year 2005, the stadium's ground and pavilion were ready. During this, the match of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) XI and Pakistan Cricket Board XI was played here.
