Speculations about legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar becoming the BCCI president have been dismissed. His management firm has termed all such talk as baseless.
BCCI chief Roger Binny resigned from his post after turning 70. The BCCI constitution does not allow any official to hold any post after the age of 70. Ever since Binny stepped down, there were speculations about legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar becoming the new head of BCCI, but now his team has issued a statement and denied these rumors.
An official statement issued by Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (SRT) Sports Management Private Limited said that it has come to our notice that some rumours are circulating about Sachin Tendulkar being considered or nominated for the post of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. We would like to clarify that nothing of this sort has happened. The statement said that we request all concerned parties not to pay heed to the baseless rumours.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is going to hold its Annual General Meeting on 28 September. The new BCCI President and IPL President may be elected in it. IPL President Arun Kumar Dhumal is likely to go on compulsory leave (cool-off period) after completing his six-year term. At the same time, it is also believed that the current Secretary Devjit Saikia, Joint Secretary Rohan Gauns Desai and Treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhati will continue in their posts. Rajiv Shukla is currently the Vice President of BCCI and it is quite likely that he will be associated with BCCI in some form or the other.
Sachin Tendulkar is counted among the greatest batsmen in the cricket world. He is the highest run scorer in Tests and ODIs. Apart from this, he is the only batsman to score 100 centuries in international cricket. He has scored 15921 runs in Test cricket and 18426 runs in ODI cricket.
