A strange sight was witnessed during the third session of the match being played at Mumbai's historic MCA-BKC ground. Sarfaraz Khan, who has been part of the Indian team, his brother Musheer Khan, and spinner Himanshu Singh were seen fielding with masks on their faces.

Initially, spectators thought it might be a new trend or a new way to ensure player safety, but the real reason turned out to be quite serious.

Two main reasons have emerged behind the players wearing masks:

  • Construction work at the ground: Construction work for a new building is underway right next to the stadium. The dust and airborne particles were causing considerable difficulty for the players to breathe.
  • Poor AQI: On Thursday, Mumbai's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 160, which falls into the 'unhealthy' category. This cocktail of dust and pollution forced the players to wear masks.
