Why Ravindra Jadeja appointed vice-captain? Understand the whole story: On Thursday, the senior selection committee announced the 15-member Indian squad for the two-Test series against the West Indies. The Indian team, which drew the series 2-2 on the England tour, has made some changes. Axar Patel and Devdutt Padikkal return to the squad, while wicketkeeper-batsman Narayan Jagadeesan receives his first call-up. Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed vice-captain.

The decision to appoint 36-year-old Ravindra Jadeja as vice-captain has raised many questions. Has his stature in Test cricket increased, or was this decision made out of compulsion? Chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed these questions in a press conference.

Ajit Agarkar said, "This became clear after Rishabh Pant was ruled out. He has a lot of experience, you know. I don't know about Pant's injury, but I hope he returns for the South Africa series." Rishabh Pant was injured during the Test series against England, which prevented him from playing the final Test of the series. Pant is currently recovering from the injury.

Ravindra Jadeja made his Test debut against England in Nagpur in December 2012. The Indian all-rounder has played 85 Test matches so far. During this period, he has scored 3886 runs in 128 innings at an average of 37.72 and a strike rate of 55.22, including 27 fifties and 5 centuries. In bowling, Jadeja has 330 wickets.
