The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the world's largest and most expensive cricket league. Its success has made the BCCI the world's richest cricket board. Whether due to elections, the pandemic, or other reasons, the venue has changed, but the tournament has been held annually since 2008. Each year, the tournament has reached new heights, but a recent report suggests that the T20 league is losing its luster.

According to the report, the Indian Premier League's brand value has seen a decline. Compared to last year, the IPL's brand value has declined by 8 percent to ₹76,100 crore, compared to ₹82,700 crore the previous year.

Mergers in the broadcasting sector and a ban on real-world gaming are being cited as reasons behind this. Media reports, citing annual valuation firm DD&A Advisory, say this is the second consecutive year the T20 league's value has declined. It was projected to be worth ₹92,500 crore in 2023.

Why did IPL suffer such a big blow?

The report, citing Beyond 22 Yards, said there are two main reasons for this: the 2024 merger of major broadcasting companies Disney Star and Viacom 18, which could reduce competition for media executives. The second reason is the Indian government's ban on real-money gaming apps this year. Many such companies were sponsors of the IPL.

The report states that due to these two major reasons, the value of its ecosystem has declined by approximately ₹16,400 crore (approximately ₹16,400 crore). It was ₹92,500 crore (approximately ₹92,500 crore) in 2023 and has now fallen to ₹76,100 crore (approximately ₹76,100 crore).

Speaking of the IPL, it's like a festival for cricket lovers in India. For two months, fans get to witness thrilling matches. Players enjoy seeing players who have played for their country together face-to-face, as the thrill of it is unique.
