Indian fans were hoping for a gold medal from Neeraj Chopra in the final of the World Athletics Championships, but he failed to deliver. However, Sachin Yadav kept fans smiling with a satisfying performance. He finished fourth with a personal best throw of 86.27 meters, beating out legends like Julian Weber of Germany and Julius Yego of Kenya. Neeraj, meanwhile, finished eighth.
Hailing from a farming family in Khekra village near Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, Sachin Yadav competed in his first international competition at the Asian Championships. He is considered the next big name in the men's javelin throw after Neeraj. Sachin's personal best is 86.27 meters.
Sachin was introduced to javelin throwing by his neighbor Sandeep Yadav, who later advised him to train under renowned javelin throw coach Nawal Singh in New Delhi (at the NCOE at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium). He joined the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2023 under the sports quota. Sandeep is also in the Uttar Pradesh Police. Sachin said, "Training under Nawal Singh changed my life. I never imagined I would reach this level. But it happened because of Sandeep Bhai and Guruji (Nawal Singh)."
Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships with a best throw of 88.16 meters. Anderson Peters took the silver medal with a throw of 87.38 meters, and Curtis Thompson of the United States took the bronze with a best throw of 86.67 meters. India's Neeraj Chopra and Sachin Yadav finished empty-handed, finishing in eighth and fourth place, respectively. Paris Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan also failed to perform well.
