SA vs WI: The captains of both the teams scored centuries

South Africa vs West Indies 2nd odi: West Indies have defeated South Africa by 48 runs in the second ODI on the basis of captain Shai Hope (128 *) and bowlers. South Africa's captain Temba Bavuma (144) scored a century in vain.

In the match played at Buffalo Park in East London, West Indies won the toss and scored 335 runs losing 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. In response, the South African team was all out for 287 runs in 41.4 overs. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma's (144) century went in vain.

With this victory, West Indies have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Remind that the first ODI was canceled due to rain. Now the third and final ODI between the two teams will be played in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.

Temba Bavuma Century

Chasing the target of 336 runs, South Africa got off to a great start by sharing a 76-run partnership between Quinton de Kock (46) and captain Temba Bavuma (144). Kyle Mayers broke the partnership by getting Cock out LBW. After this, Ryan Richelton (14) along with Bavuma added 47 runs for the second wicket. Yannick Kariya gave second blow to the Proteas team by dismissing Richelton lbw.

Bavuma shared a 61-run partnership for the third wicket with Tony de Georgi (27). Akil Hussain bowled Georgi. From here again South Africa's innings started faltering. Rassie van der Dussen (8), Tristan Stubbs (6) and Marco Janssen (17) were dismissed in quick succession. Bjorn Fortuin (1) and Gerald Coetzee (1) also could not show any wonder.

Meanwhile, Bavuma scored the fourth century of his career. He stayed at one end and scored 144 runs in 118 balls with the help of 11 fours and 7 sixes. Joseph ended Bavuma's innings by getting caught by Shai Hope. The entire South African team was reduced to 287 runs in 41.4 overs. Akil Hussain and Alzarri Joseph took three wickets each for the West Indies. One wicket each came in the account of Kyle Mayers, Yannick Kariya and Odin Smith.

Hope Scored a Brilliant Century

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, West Indies got off to a strong start with Brendon King (30) and Kyle Mayers (36) sharing a 67-run partnership. Fortuin dealt West Indies the first blow by getting Mears out caught by Rickelton. The hosts lost the wickets of Brendan King and Shamrah Brooks for 71 runs. In this way the Proteas bowlers tried to come back strongly.

However, Shai Hope took the lead from here. Hope shared an 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Nicholas Pooran (39). Coetzee broke this partnership by getting Pooran caught out by Van der Dussen. From here, Hope and Rovman Powell (46) added 80 runs for the fifth wicket. Coetzee clean bowled Powell and prevented him from scoring a half-century.

Big Score For West Indies

Hope stayed put at one end while Jason Holder (15), Akil Hussain (2) and Odin Smith (1) went in quick succession from the other end. Hope shared an unbeaten 42-run partnership for the 9th wicket with Alzarri Joseph (13 *) to take the Caribbean team to a huge score. Hope scored an unbeaten 128 in 115 balls with the help of five fours and seven sixes. Gerald Coetzee took three wickets for South Africa. Bjorn Fortuin and Tabrez Shamsi got two wickets each. Marco Jansen scored a breakthrough.
