Rohit Sharma gave a big gift to former Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid on his farewell match. India won the T20 World Cup for the second time in 17 years by defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final played in the West Indies. When the world champion team returned to India on Thursday, it was given a grand welcome. Rahul Dravid revealed the phone call after the victory parade.
Rahul Dravid's tenure ended after the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was not ready to extend it. Then the BCCI officials held a meeting with him and convinced him to remain the coach of the Indian team till the T20 World Cup 2024. However, after the victory parade, when the team was thanking the fans at Wankhede, Rahul Dravid mentioned the phone call made by Rohit Sharma.
Rahul Dravid said, I was not sure whether I would continue coaching after the ODI World Cup. There was a lot of happiness due to a great campaign, but there was also a bit of disappointment in the final that we could not win. Rohit called me and asked me to try once more in six or eight months. Asked me to give him another chance, I am grateful for what the boys did. I think it was the best phone call of my life.

It is worth noting that Rahul Dravid became the head coach of the Indian team at the end of 2021. Under his coaching, the Indian team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Then played the finals of the World Test Championship and the World Cup. However, he also faced disappointment along with the team. By the time he left, he became the T20 World Cup champion coach. As a player, Dravid could not win a single World Cup.
