The Kiwi team will play a three-Test series on the India tour, the first Test of which will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from October 16. Tom Latham will be seen playing the role of New Zealand's full-time Test captain for the first time. However, the news of New Zealand's experienced batsman Kane Williamson being out of the team has increased the concern of the fans. Williamson has back pain, due to which he will come to India late.
Williamson suffered a back injury during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will need rehab. After recovery, he will join the New Zealand Test team in India. New Zealand selector Sam Wells said that the plan is to play Williamson in some matches.
'We have been advised that rest and rehabilitation is necessary for Kane Williamson before he returns to the game. Otherwise, his risk of injury may increase. We hope that if rehabilitation goes as planned, Kane Williamson will be available at the end of the tour.' He said, 'It is disappointing that Williamson is not available for the first Test, but other players will have a golden opportunity to prove themselves in an important series.'
