Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi is out of action indefinitely due to a right leg muscle injury. The club has confirmed this in an official statement. Messi suffered this injury during the Leagues Cup match against Mexican team Necaxa on Saturday. Despite Messi's injury, Inter Miami won 5-4 in the penalty shootout against Necaxa.
Lionel Messi was on the pitch for just 11 minutes. Although he walked to the locker room on his own, he underwent a medical examination after suffering an injury.
International's Miami confirmed, 'The report confirms Messi has suffered a minor injury to his third leg slice. His illness will be confirmed based on his medical condition and response to treatment.
Lionel Messi has scored 18 goals and 9 assists in 18 matches for Inter Miami this season. He currently tops the list of top scorers in MLS (Major League Soccer).
Inter Miami are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with 42 points from 12 wins, 4 losses and 6 draws. They are 8 points behind Philadelphia at the top but have three more matches left.
Inter Miami are second in the MLS standings with 5 points for Leagues Cup qualification and need a win against UNAM Pumas on Wednesday to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
