India vs West Indies 1st Test Match Day1 Highlights

Indian bowlers dominated the opening day of the first Test match being played against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Indian bowlers, led by Mohammad Siraj, prevented West Indies from making a huge score in the first innings. West Indies, batting first, scored 162 runs in the first innings. India scored 121 runs for two wickets in the first innings till the end of the day's play and is currently 41 runs behind West Indies. At the time of stumps, KL Rahul is at the crease with 53 runs and Shubman Gill with 18 runs. Jayden Seals and Roston Chase got one success each for West Indies.

Yashasvi and Rahul provided a solid start

After dismissing West Indies early in the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul got off to a good start, adding 68 runs for the first wicket. Seals dealt India the first blow by dismissing Yashasvi, who was dismissed for 36 off 54 balls with seven fours. Jaden Seals had Yashasvi Jaiswal caught by wicketkeeper Shai Hope. Sai Sudarshan, who came in to bat at number three, then departed after scoring seven runs. India suffered their second setback at the score of 90. Captain Roston Chase dismissed Sai Sudarshan LBW.

India will be looking to take a big lead

After suffering two setbacks, KL Rahul, along with captain Shubman Gill, steadied the innings. Rahul also completed his half-century. Gill and Rahul prevented India from suffering another setback until the end of the day's play. They have now added 31 runs for the third wicket. The Indian team will now be looking to take a big lead against the West Indies on the second day.

The first day belonged to the bowlers

The first day, however, belonged entirely to the bowlers, who tormented the West Indies batsmen. The Indian fast bowlers combined to take seven wickets, while the spinners claimed three wickets. The Indian team entered the match with three spinners, two fast bowlers, and a pace bowling all-rounder in Nitish Reddy. The three spinners are Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav. This strategy proved to be correct in the first innings, as the bowlers performed their duties admirably.

West Indies couldn't even last two full sessions.

West Indies' first innings was bundled out for 162. Justin Greaves top-scored for West Indies, who won the toss and elected to bat first. The team was all out in under four and a half hours. For India, Mohammed Siraj took four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took three. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets, and Washington Sundar one. With this, the umpires announced an early tea break.

West Indies Innings

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the West Indies got off to a poor start. They lost four wickets for 42 runs in the opening hour. Siraj dismissed Tejnarayan Chanderpaul (0), Brandon King (12), and Alick Athanaze (13), while Bumrah dismissed John Campbell (8). Captain Roston Chase and Shai Hope then added 48 runs for the fifth wicket. Hope was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav, and the umpires decided to call lunch with his wicket. Hope scored 26 runs. In the second session, West Indies captain Roston Chase fell to Siraj for 24. Sundar then dismissed Khary Pierre (11) LBW. Bumrah then clean bowled Justin Greaves (32) and Johan Lyon (1) with two lethal yorkers. Kuldeep had Warrican (8) caught by wicketkeeper Jurel, ending the West Indies innings at 162.
