India's Test Record At Kennington Oval

India's record at the Oval

Team India has played a total of 15 Test matches at Kennington Oval so far, out of which it has won only two matches. It has lost 6 times, while seven matches have been drawn. India last played a Test on this ground against England in 2021, winning by 157 runs. This is India's biggest win on this ground so far.

India played its first Test in August 1936 at Kennington Oval, in which it lost to England by 9 wickets. After this, the matches held in 1946 and 1952 were drawn. In the year 1959, India had to face a crushing defeat by an innings and 27 runs.

India got its first victory in 1971, when under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar, Team India created history by defeating England by 4 wickets at the Oval ground. This victory is counted among the most important successes in India's Test history abroad. India played five consecutive Tests here in 1979, 1982, 1990, 2002 and 2007, but all were draws.

In August 2011, England defeated India by an innings and 8 runs. After this, in 2014, the Indian team again had to face a crushing defeat by an innings and 244 runs. In 2018 also, India had to face defeat by 118 runs. But in 2021, India improved its performance on this ground and defeated the host team by 157 runs.

Loss in WTC final too

In July 2023, India played the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia on this ground. In this title match, India had to face defeat by 209 runs, adding another defeat to India's name at the Oval. Now that the deciding Test of the series is to be played on this ground, India will have the challenge of changing history. While England will rely on home conditions and advantage, India will have to rise above their record and register a win so that they can end the series in a draw.
