ICC Ranking Update: New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has set a new record by surpassing Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the ICC ODI batting rankings. Mitchell is now the world's No. 1 ODI batsman.
This is a historic moment for New Zealand cricket. After Glenn Turner in 1979, Mitchell is only the second Kiwi batsman to top the ODI rankings—a record that took 45 years to break. Even legends like Martin Crowe, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor failed to achieve this feat.
Mitchell achieved this feat by scoring his seventh ODI century in the recent series against the West Indies. However, an injury sustained during this brilliant innings has ruled him out of the remainder of the series.
Note: Three Indian batsmen, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer (#8), still hold a strong position in the top 10.
Batting: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma played a key role in ending a 15-year Test win drought in India. After scoring a half-century in difficult conditions in Kolkata, he has entered the top five in the Test batting rankings for the first time.
Joe Root (England) tops the Test batting rankings, followed by his compatriot Harry Brook.
Bowling: India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah remains in first place after taking six wickets at Eden Gardens.
South African all-rounder Marco Jansen remains outside the top 10 in bowling, but has moved into the top five in the all-rounders' rankings.
T20 bowling: New Zealand's Jacob Duffy took the most wickets in the five-match T20 series and has moved up to second in the rankings. Varun Chakravarthy is ahead of him in this list, and Rashid Khan is just behind him.
ODI bowling: Following Pakistan's 3-0 win over Sri Lanka, leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has moved up 11 places to ninth. Rashid Khan remains at the top of the bowlers' list.
