Virat Kohli has scored 84 centuries in his international career. He currently trails Sachin Tendulkar by 16 centuries for the most centuries.

How many ODI matches will Team India play till the 2027 World Cup?

Virat Kohli performed brilliantly with the bat in the ODI series against South Africa, scoring two centuries and a fifty. Kohli has scored 376 runs in his last four innings. In the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur, he scored 102, his 84th international century.

Sachin Tendulkar leads the list of most centuries in international cricket. He is the first batsman to score 100 centuries. Virat currently has 84 centuries and will need 16 more to equal Tendulkar's record. However, the problem here is that if Virat, who is currently 37 years old, plays until the 2027 World Cup, how many matches does he have left to reach the 100-century mark?

How many matches does Team India have left?

The Indian team has 18 more ODI matches to play before the 2027 World Cup. Team India has no ODI matches remaining this year (2025), so Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will only be seen in Team India jerseys in 2026. This means Virat Kohli has 18 matches left to reach the 100th century mark before the 2027 ODI World Cup. Scoring 16 centuries in these 18 matches seems almost impossible.

Although the 2027 World Cup schedule has not been released yet, considering the projected format of the World Cup, if the Indian team plays even 10 matches in the World Cup, Virat will have 28 innings to score the next 16 centuries. The number of innings may vary depending on the World Cup schedule. Overall, reaching 100 centuries seems very difficult for Virat.

There are 18 matches left before the World Cup. Even if Virat performs very well and scores a century every other match, he will still only be able to reach 93 centuries.
