England announces Under-19 World Cup squad: England has announced its 15-member squad for the Under-19 World Cup, which will be hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia in January and February next year. Somerset's talented wicketkeeper-batsman Thomas Rew has been appointed captain of the team for this prestigious tournament.
The 18-year-old Thomas Rew is considered a rising star of English cricket. He is the younger brother of well-known England player James Rew. In June this year, Thomas set a record for the fastest century for England Under-19, scoring a hundred off just 73 balls against India. He recently played for 'England Lions' in Australia, where he showcased his maturity with some impressive performances.
Team balance and key players: Nottinghamshire off-spinner Farhan Ahmed has been appointed vice-captain. Farhan is the younger brother of England international Rehan Ahmed and recently captained the team on their tour of the West Indies.
The only new face in the squad is Leicestershire's uncapped left-arm spinner Ali Farooq. Head coach Mike Yardy said, "We have a well-balanced team with players who have experience in county cricket. This is a fantastic opportunity for these young players to showcase their talent on a big stage like the World Cup."
