New Delhi: One of the 23 Indian cricketers on the ongoing tour of England has tested positive for COVID-19 during the 20-day break and will not travel to Durham with the rest of the team on Thursday.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently sent an e-mail to the Indian team present in the UK, warning about the increasing cases of Covid-19 there.

The Indian team is to assemble in a biologically safe environment in Durham ahead of the Test series against England starting next month.

A BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity, “Yes, a player has tested positive.

But at the moment no symptoms are visible in it. He is currently in isolation at an acquaintance's house and will not go to Durham with the team on Thursday.

All the members who went on the UK tour have kept silence about the name of the player.

It is understood that the player is infected with the delta type, due to which the cases of infection in Britain are increasing.

In his letter, Shah had asked the players to avoid going to crowded areas as the Covishield vaccine can only prevent infection, it does not give full immunity against the virus.

Shah had specifically written in his letter that players should avoid going to the recently concluded Wimbledon Tennis Championships and Euro Football Championships here.

The Indian team has to play a five-Test series against England from August 4.
