Indian cricket is once again in turmoil. Just before the second ODI against South Africa, the BCCI has called a meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and some top board officials. This meeting, taking place just hours before the match, offers several important clues.

According to a Sportstar report, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar will be present at the meeting. It is unclear whether new BCCI President Mithun Manhas will attend. However, it is highly unlikely that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or any other senior player will be invited to the meeting.

According to a BCCI official, the purpose of the meeting is to bring continuity to team selection and clarity on future plans.

Why the sudden meeting?

The recent home Test series defeat against South Africa has forced the board to consider several questions. The main focus of this meeting will be on:

  • The team's strategy in recent matches has been flawed.
  • A communication gap between management and players.
  • Strengthening the team's long-term plans.

"There have been many strange decisions on and off the field during the home Test season. There are still eight months left for the next Test series, so we want to be fully prepared first," a senior official said.

Big decisions regarding T20 and ODI World Cup

India will be looking to defend its title at the T20 World Cup next year. The ODI World Cup is also scheduled to follow. Therefore, the board is not taking any risks. According to a top official, India will be a top contender in the next two major ICC tournaments, so it is important to resolve all strategic matters immediately.

For some time now, there has been a strong buzz that the Board is trying to persuade Virat Kohli to return to Test cricket. However, after the Ranchi ODI, Kohli himself categorically ruled out any possibility of a return. It is also believed that there are some differences between the management, selection committee, and senior players, which are being resolved.

The outcome of this meeting could significantly impact Team India's direction and selection policy in the coming days. This "sudden meeting" just before the second ODI has further increased the curiosity among fans.
