The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected renowned Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan to take charge of pace-bowling development ahead of the new season. He will assume the responsibility in early March. The BCCI had been searching for a replacement for Troy Cooley, the vacant fast-bowling coach position.
With India's fast bowler pool dwindling and first-choice options dwindling across all formats, the board hopes a capable player like Zaheer will help nurture the next generation of fast bowlers. The veteran pacer is expected to lead a special training camp at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, focusing on new talent identified from the state circuits.
Following his official appointment, Zaheer will work closely with the Indian team's support staff to design structured programs to strengthen India's fast-bowling stock ahead of upcoming tours and ICC events.
