Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul has dismissed all reports claiming that the ICC has given the Bangladesh team an ultimatum to play their 2026 T20 World Cup matches in India. The BCB president termed all such reports of an ultimatum as false.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Aminul Islam Bulbul said that he had previously written to the ICC regarding security concerns. He explained that government permission is required before undertaking any foreign tour. Aminul stated that he would continue to fight for his rights in connection with this World Cup. The president also mentioned that Bangladesh has participated in several World Cups before, but no such objection had been raised by them until now.
The BCB president further stated The claim that the ICC has told us that it's impossible to hold Bangladesh's matches in Sri Lanka is all propaganda; it's completely false news. We are in constant contact with the ICC, and they have asked us to convey our concerns. We are currently in that process.
He was also asked about the potential disadvantages for Bangladesh if they don't travel to India for the T20 World Cup. The BCB president replied that the board has considered such a scenario. He cited examples, mentioning that the Indian team did not travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, and similarly, the Pakistani team has not traveled to India for the last few World Cups.
The BCB president has made it clear that they would even forgo participating in the World Cup due to security concerns in India, but they will not back down from their decision.
