Police within the Athletes' Village in Paris called Indian wrestler Antim Panghal, who lost in the 53kg class. Antim was charged with breaking a serious rule by allegedly "smuggling" her sister into the community.
According to the information obtained, Antim and her sister will probably be "deported" back to India on Thursday.
"After a disciplinary breach was brought to IOA's notice by the French authorities, the Indian Olympic Association has decided to fly wrestler Antim and her support staff back," an IOA statement said.
Coaches Bhagat Singh and Vikas, who work for Antim, were also involved in another police case. On Wednesday night, reports said, they rode in a taxi from the Village to their hotel. After misbehaving and refusing to pay the cab driver when they arrived at the hotel, they hurried inside. After the incident, the cab driver reportedly approached the police as well, according to reports.
On Wednesday, Antim made her Olympic debut in the 53 kg event, which is Vinesh Phogat's pet weight class. She fell against Zeynep Yetgil in a lopsided first-round match, despite being one of India's medal hopes. The 19-year-old was escorted to their hotel by her sister and trainers after leaving the Champ-de-Mars Arena in tears.
After that, she requested her sister to pack up her things and accompany her to the Village, where Antim used her accreditation card to go through the rigorous security checks. She then gave her sister the card. The Village security spotted her trying to sneak in under the guise of Antim.
Antim was at the Village police station late on Wednesday night with her sister. It has been learnt that the Indian team officials have been advised by the police to reserve their spot on the Thursday flight back to India.
