West Indies announced squad for ODI series against Pakistan: Cricket West Indies has officially announced the 15-member ODI squad of the West Indies national cricket team for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan.
West Indies and Pakistan recently played a three-match T20 International series, which the home team lost 1-2, giving Pakistan a big win ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
The Shai Hope-led squad includes several young players who have been crucial for the Windies recently, and also includes the return of all-rounder Romario Shepherd. Shepherd is joining the West Indies ODI squad for the first time since the series against Bangladesh last year. Veteran Alzari Joseph has been rested for the three-match series.
West Indies head coach Darren Sammy mentioned the importance of this series as he believes that this series will provide an opportunity to strengthen their qualification for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Apart from making it to this major event, Sammy wants his team to adopt a winning mindset and play as a unit.

Sammy said, "In our pursuit to achieve automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup, Pakistan presents a different test and challenge. While achieving qualification is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mindset and team cohesion is essential for long-term success. The upcoming matches against higher-ranked teams like Pakistan will provide important opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our position ahead of the World Cup."
West Indies are currently ranked 10th in the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, while Pakistan are placed fourth, below India, New Zealand and Australia.
