As soon as the Gaba Test was drawn, Ravichandran Ashwin, who came to the press conference with captain Rohit Sharma immediately after the match, surprised everyone with his decision. Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in the press conference. After this, questions started arising as to why Ashwin retired in the middle of the series, then he also answered this. Ashwin said that I still have some strength left and he will continue to play club cricket. Ashwin said in the press conference with Rohit Sharma, I will not take much of your time. Ravichandran Ashwin's decision to retire may have come suddenly, but it was a move that was being thought about for quite some time. It was first considered during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home ground in 2023, but when it was discussed once again, Ashwin made up his mind, especially because of his knee which has been causing trouble for some time now. Even before leaving for Australia for the Test series, Ashwin is believed to have told his family that he was thinking of retiring from international cricket. Although no decision was taken then, his family had asked him to think about it and Ashwin is said to have said that he would take a decision after whatever happens in Australia. And on Tuesday night, he told his family that December 18 would be his last day in international cricket.

As captain Rohit Sharma said as soon as he landed in Perth, Ashwin had a long conversation about retiring before playing the second Test in Adelaide. He was also a contender to play the Brisbane Test, but Ravindra Jadeja was preferred. It is understood that at the Gabba, Ashwin told each player separately about his decision to retire in the middle of the series, which surprised everyone. Although Ashwin got a chance to play in Melbourne and Sydney, it seems that this decision has been taken keeping this in mind
This will be my last day as an international cricketer, as an Indian cricketer. I think I have some strength left in me as a cricketer, but I will probably try to show it in club cricket, but this will be the last day. I have had a lot of fun in international cricket and I must say I have made a lot of memories with Rohit Sharma and other teammates. I am the last OG (old school) in the dressing room. I want to thank the BCCI, my teammates, all the coaches.
