Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have sealed their place in the IPL 2025 final after a stunning win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 1. The Rajat Patidar-led RCB will look to end their 18-year-long wait for an IPL title. This season has been great for RCB as they finished in the top two and now they have a golden opportunity to lift their maiden IPL trophy. Many players have led RCB in the league over the years, but only a few have been able to take the team to the final.
Indian veteran spinner Anil Kumble became the first captain to take RCB to the IPL final. In the 2009 season, held in South Africa due to general elections in India, Kumble led a spirited RCB team to the final. Royal Challengers Bangalore lost the final match to Deccan Chargers by 6 runs.
New Zealand's Daniel Vettori captained RCB in the 2011 season and led the team to the finals once again. Unfortunately, RCB lost to Chennai Super Kings by 58 runs. After retiring from cricket, Vettori returned to RCB as part of the coaching staff and continued his association with the franchise.
Virat Kohli led RCB to the final in 2016, which was also his best season as a batsman. He scored over 900 runs that year - a record-breaking feat. Despite his excellent form, RCB lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 runs in a thrilling match.
The latest name in IPL 2025 is that of Rajat Patidar, who will take over the reins of the team in IPL 2025. His leadership has brought a new energy to the team, and with the support of star players like Virat Kohli – who has scored over 600 runs this season – RCB are well placed to end their title drought.
