The countdown for the Champions Trophy 2025 has begun. The matches of this tournament are to be played in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19. Team India will play all its matches in Dubai. All 8 countries have announced their teams for this tournament. All teams have the last date till February 12 to make changes in their teams. Meanwhile, there is a lot of discussion about who will replace Indian team's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the team.
ESPNcricinfo has claimed that the decision on whether Bumrah will play in the Champions Trophy or not will be taken today. If Bumrah is out of the tournament due to injury, then who can replace him.
Team India played the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on the Australia tour. Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury in the last match of this series played in Sydney. If Jasprit Bumrah is not fit, then Mohammad Siraj can replace him for the Champions Trophy. Siraj did not get a place in the team for the ODI series against England nor was he selected for the Champions Trophy, but due to his experience, Siraj can be made Bumrah's replacement in this tournament. Siraj has taken 71 wickets in 44 ODIs so far.
If Jasprit Bumrah's replacement is needed, then Shardul Thakur's name is also in the race. Due to his all-round ability, Shardul can make a significant contribution to the team in batting and bowling. He is performing brilliantly in Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He played innings of 51 and 119 runs against Jammu and Kashmir team. Against Meghalaya, he scored 84 runs with the bat and took 8 wickets in both innings with the ball.
