West Indies have announced the squad for the T20 series against Australia from July 20 to 28. The squad announced for the T20 series includes 18-year-old batsman Jewel Andrew and left-arm fast bowler Jediah Blades. This is part of efforts by head coach Darren Sammy to build a team for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Head coach Darren Sammy said Our goal is to win the T20 World Cup in 2026. We will continue to improve our playing style and brand ahead of the World Cup. Our last two T20 series at home ended in defeat. We want to regain our form at home against Australia and prepare for next year's T20 World Cup with our talented group of players.
Jewel Andrew, included in the team, is a back-up wicketkeeper batsman. Andrew is known for his ability to play spin well. At just 18 years of age, Andrew is considered to be the most promising young talent of the Caribbean team. He has a good chance to prove his ability on the international stage.
He is accompanied by left-arm fast bowler Jediah Blades, who made his international debut against Bangladesh in 2024. Blades has garnered a lot of praise for his sharp bowling with the new ball, especially in the powerplay. Now he has a chance to prove himself against a strong opponent like Australia. The captain is Shai Hope. Apart from this, the team has experienced players like Jason Holder, Andre Russell, Akeel Hosein and Rovman Powell.
