WATCH Virat Kohli First Interview After Retirement: Indian cricket team's legendary batsman Virat Kohli's much-anticipated comeback to international cricket in the first ODI against Australia in Perth today (October 19, 2025) was not a memorable one. Kohli, who returned to the blue jersey after seven months, was dismissed for a duck after facing eight balls, but it was his pre-match interview that caught everyone's attention.
After retiring from Test and T20 International cricket, Kohli took a break, spending a few months in the United Kingdom (UK) with his wife Anushka Sharma and children.
Virat Kohli Comeback match disappoints
The Indian team had a poor start to the three-match ODI series against Australia. Losing the toss and electing to bat first, the Indian team's top order suffered setbacks from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
After Rohit Sharma's early dismissal, all attention was focused on Virat Kohli, who was back on the field after such a long break. However, his comeback was disappointing. An attempted drive off Mitchell Starc took the outside edge and went into the hands of Cooper Connolly at point. Kohli was dismissed for 0 off 8 balls, his first ODI duck on Australian soil. This was his 39th duck in international cricket.

What did Virat Kohli say in the interview?

- "I was just catching up on life. I hadn't been able to do anything like that for so many years."
- Being able to spend some quality time at home with my kids and family was a beautiful, beautiful phase that I really enjoyed.
He also expressed how refreshed this break made him feel. He said he felt "fresh, fresh and fit - moving well in the nets and fielding sessions."
Justifying his decision to retire from two formats, Kohli said that he had played the most matches in international cricket in the last fifteen years.
Despite being dismissed for zero on the field, Virat Kohli's statement off the field highlights how important it is to take a break from the game and devote time to personal life, especially when you are constantly in the game. He's been playing high-intensity cricket for 15-20 years. Fans hope Kohli will soon prove his 'fresh' feeling by playing a big innings.
