On a historic day in Navi Mumbai, India scripted a remarkable victory by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 final. This landmark win marked India’s first-ever Women's ODI World Cup title, ending years of near misses in 2005 and 2017 finals.
Strong Indian Batting Performance
After South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt chose to bowl first, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave a blazing start, putting on a 104-run partnership. Mandhana was dismissed for 45, while Verma scored a brilliant 87 before getting out to Ayabonga Khaka.

Despite middle-order struggles from Jemimah Rodrigues (24) and Harmanpreet Kaur (20), Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh provided stability with a vital 47-run stand. Sharma scored a steady 58 runs, and Ghosh contributed a quick 34, helping India post a competitive total of 298/7 in 50 overs. Khaka was the standout bowler for South Africa, taking 3 wickets for 58 runs.
South Africa’s Batting Fightback
South Africa’s chase faced early setbacks with key wickets falling in quick succession, including Anneke Bosch and Luus. Captain Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly, scoring a century (101 off 98 balls), but lacked substantial support.
India’s bowling, led by Deepti Sharma who took an impressive five-wicket haul (5/39), dismantled the South African batting lineup. Kranti Goud and Shafali Verma also contributed crucial wickets, ensuring South Africa were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.
