Watch IND vs PAK Final Drama: The Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan, played on the night of September 28, 2025, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, wasn't just a cricket match; it was a cocktail of political rhetoric, intense excitement, and unprecedented controversy. India may have won the Asia Cup for the ninth time with a resounding five-wicket victory, but the drama that unfolded after the match captured the world's attention.

After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the Pakistani team got off to a stellar start with the opening pair of Sahibzada Farhan (57 runs) and Fakhar Zaman (46 runs). At one point, Pakistan were 113 for just 1 wicket and looked set to easily reach 180+.
But the havoc wreaked by the Indian spinners thereafter was etched in history. Led by Kuldeep Yadav (4/30), the spin trio devastated Pakistan's middle order. Pakistan lost their last nine wickets for just 33 runs and were all out for just 146 in 19.1 overs. This collapse proved to be the biggest turning point of the entire match.

The target of 147 runs seemed easy, but India's start was disastrous. The top order, including openers Abhishek Sharma and captain Suryakumar Yadav, departed cheaply. The score was 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs .
In this crucial moment, young Tilak Verma displayed composure and determination. He formed crucial partnerships with Sanju Samson (24 runs) and then Shivam Dubey (33 runs). Tilak played a match-winning innings of 69 not out (53 balls) under pressure. Finally, Rinku Singh hit a four off the very first ball to give India a historic 5-wicket win.

Amidst the excitement of victory, head coach Gautam Gambhir's reaction in the Indian dressing room went viral. When Tilak Varma hit a six off Haris Rauf to seal the match for India, Gambhir went crazy! He jumped up from his seat and started pounding the table in front of him with both hands. Gambhir's intense, unfiltered enthusiasm reflected the passion of the India-Pakistan rivalry.
The post-match atmosphere became even more dramatic. Instead of celebrating the victory, fans witnessed an unexpected controversy.
Even before the presentation ceremony began, the Indian team made it clear that they would not accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi. In fact, Naqvi is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan, which led to heightened tensions between the two countries.

The Indian team maintained their stance and did not come to receive the trophy. After this, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy with him and left the stage! This was perhaps the first time in cricket history that a champion team did not receive the symbol of its victory (the trophy).
Captain Suryakumar Yadav later said, "My real trophy is my team, it was a hard-won victory, and I have never seen a champion team denied the trophy before."
This final match will always be remembered – for Tilak Verma's bravery and Gambhir's passion, as well as for the unprecedented controversy when the champion team, despite winning the Asia Cup, did not lift it with their own hands.
