During this brilliant innings, Kohli shared a 195-run partnership for the third wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kohli has shown excellent batting performance in his last three ODI innings against South Africa, scoring centuries in each of them.

India, batting first, lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal early, after which Kohli, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, steadied the innings. Before Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his first ODI century, but Gaikwad was caught out after scoring a century and returned to the pavilion. Gaikwad scored 105 runs.

Kohli and Gaikwad shared a 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This is the highest partnership for any wicket between India and South Africa in ODIs. The pair of Kohli and Gaikwad surpassed Sachin and Dinesh Karthik, who had shared a 194-run partnership against this team in Gwalior in 2010.
