Rajat Patidar scores his first first-class double century: Madhya Pradesh's newly appointed all-format captain, Rajat Patidar, achieved a remarkable milestone in his cricketing career by scoring his maiden double century in the Ranji Trophy in the first match of the 2025-26 season against Punjab at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore.
Patidar's innings was a masterful example of patience and skill, taking his team's first-innings lead past 200 runs. The double century, scored off 328 balls with 26 fours, surpassed his previous highest score of 196 in first-class cricket.
The 32-year-old batsman came in at number five when Madhya Pradesh were 155 for four in reply to Punjab's first-innings total of 232. Patidar, along with Venkatesh Iyer, steadied the innings, forging a crucial century partnership to bail the hosts out of trouble and secure a first-innings lead.

Rajat Patidar's First-Class Career

Patidar, who began his red-ball career a decade ago, has scored over 5,200 runs in first-class cricket at an impressive average of nearly 45. His return to form in recent seasons, especially after a disappointing Test debut against England, has been remarkable.
Last Ranji season, he was Madhya Pradesh's leading run-scorer, scoring 529 runs at an average of 48.09, including a century and two half-centuries, and also led the team to a runner-up finish in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
This double century signaled a continuation of Patidar's incredible performance in 2025. Earlier this year, he led Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first IPL title and then captained Central Zone to their first Duleep Trophy victory in a decade.
