The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is on the verge of a major shake-up following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup held in the USA. The fallout has resulted in the sacking of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their positions in the PCB's selection committee. While the PCB has not yet officially confirmed the development, sources suggest that it is only a matter of time before an announcement is made.
Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were part of a seven-member selection committee responsible for picking the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup. This committee also included notable names such as Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and the national team's captain and coach, either Gary Kirsten or Jason Gillespie. The seventh member was Bilal Afzal, a data analyst tasked with providing statistics and data to aid in the selection process.
The seven-member committee led by Riaz came under scrutiny after questionable selections for the World Cup squad. An internal PCB inquiry reportedly identified inconsistencies in the committee's decisions. Feedback from the touring party, including the manager, coach, and potentially captain Babar Azam, is believed to have played a significant role in the PCB's decision. Razzaq will also be removed from the women's selection committee.

"This decision follows feedback from various stakeholders, including players and support staff, regarding the selection of certain players despite reservations from other members," revealed sources familiar with the developments.
Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja had publicly criticized team selection during the tournament, particularly the recalls of Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir.
Adding fuel to the fire, Riaz and Razzaq's participation in the ongoing World Championship of Legends in Birmingham has reportedly irked the PCB. Their decision to prioritize charity matches while the board faces public pressure for the World Cup performance hasn't gone down well.
The PCB formed the selection committee in March, with Riaz and Razzaq joining Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, the national team captain (Babar Azam at the time), and the coach (either Gary Kirsten or Jason Gillespie). Bilal Afzal, a data analyst, was included to provide statistical support.
Pakistan's campaign was marred by a shocking defeat to co-hosts USA. Though they managed wins against Canada and Ireland, a close loss to India ultimately sealed their fate. India and USA progressed from Group A, with India going on to win the trophy in Bridgetown, Barbados.
