Zimbabwe Defeat Australia by 23 Runs: The first major upset of the T20 World Cup 2026 has occurred. Zimbabwe defeated 2021 T20 World Cup champions Australia by 23 runs in the 19th match of this edition. The match was played at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Zimbabwe scored 169 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Australia's innings was reduced to 146 runs in 19.3 overs.
This is Zimbabwe's second T20 victory over Australia. Previously, Zimbabwe defeated Australia by five wickets in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The two have faced each other four times so far, with Australia winning twice and Zimbabwe winning twice. Sikandar Raza's team has a 100% win record against Australia in the T20 World Cup. This means that the Kangaroos have never defeated Zimbabwe in this tournament.

- Zimbabwe suffered their first wicket in the eighth over at 61. Marcus Stoinis had Tadiwanashe Marumani caught by Josh Inglis. He scored 35 runs off 21 balls, hitting seven fours.
- Zimbabwe suffered their second wicket in the form of Ryan Burl, who was dismissed on the last ball of the 16th over. Burl scored 35 runs off 30 balls, hitting four fours. Burl was dismissed by Cameron Green.
- Brian Bennett remained unbeaten on 64 runs off 56 balls, hitting seven fours. Captain Sikandar Raza also scored an unbeaten 25 runs off 13 balls, hitting two fours and a six. The two shared an unbeaten 38-run partnership for the fourth wicket, off 24 balls.

- Josh Inglis was dismissed for eight, while Cameron Green and Tim David failed to score. Blessing Muzarabani dismissed Inglis and David.
- Green was dismissed by Brad Evans. Captain Travis Head was bowled by Brad Evans. He managed 17 runs off 15 balls with three fours. Australia lost four wickets for 29 runs.
- Glenn Maxwell then shared a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Matt Renshaw in 59 balls. Maxwell managed 31 runs off 32 balls with one four and one six.
- Maxwell was bowled by Burl. Marcus Stoinis was then caught by Masakadza, managing six runs off four balls.
- Ben Dwarshuis was caught by Brad Evans. Tony took a brilliant catch on the boundary line. He dived in the air to take the catch. Dwarshuis could only score six runs.
- Muzarabani then had Matt Renshaw caught by Burl. He was out after scoring 65 runs in 44 balls with the help of five fours and one six.
- Muzarabani then clean bowled Adam Zampa. He could only score two runs. Zimbabwe created history when Kuhnemann was run out.
- For Zimbabwe, Muzarabani took four wickets and Evans took three. Masakadza and Burl got one wicket each.
