The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) player auction has seen several franchises shell out big money to acquire the best talents from around the world. Since its inception in 2014, the league has made several kabaddi stars crorepatis.
The PKL saw its first Rs 1 crore player in Season 6 when U Mumba signed Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali. Since then, the figure has gone even higher, with some of the top players crossing the Rs 2 crore mark.
Star raider Pawan Sehrawat broke his own record of becoming the most expensive player in PKL history when Telugu Titans bought him for Rs 2.605 crore ahead of Season 10. Despite his performances - 202 raid points and 15 tackle points - the Titans had a poor campaign and finished bottom of the table with just 21 points from 22 matches.
Iranian all-rounder Mohammad Reza Shadloi was bought by Puneri Paltan for Rs 2.35 crore in the season 10 auction, making him the second most expensive player in PKL history. Known as the 'Showstopper', Shadloi performed brilliantly to help Puneri Paltan win their first PKL title. He was named the best defender of season 10, registering 99 tackle points.
Pawan Sehrawat made headlines again in season 9 when Tamil Thalaivas bought him for Rs 2.26 crore and became the most expensive player at that time. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in the first match against Gujarat Giants and was ruled out. He later had to undergo surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Another talented raider Sachin Tanwar was the most expensive buy in the Pro Kabaddi Season 11 auction. He was bought by Tamil Thalaivas for Rs 2.15 crore. Sachin Tanwar performed well with 82 raid points and 8 tackle points, but the Thalaivas failed to capitalise on it and finished ninth with 50 points in 22 matches.
Maninder Singh was retained by Bengal Warriors for Rs 2.12 crore through the Final Bid Match (FBM) option in the PKL Season 10 auction, making him the most expensive FBM player in PKL history. Maninder lived up to expectations, scoring 197 raid points in 21 games. However, the Warriors missed the playoffs and finished seventh in the table.
