Indian veteran player Virat Kohli surprised the cricket world by announcing his retirement from the Test format on 12 May 2025. Rumors of his retirement were flying since his poor form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it has now proved to be true. Virat made his debut for India in the longest format of the game against the West Indies in 2011 and the Sydney Test against Australia in January 2025 proved to be his last match.

Virat Kohli played 123 Test matches for India, in which he scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 and a strike rate of 55.58. He has 31 half-centuries, 30 centuries and 7 double centuries in Tests.

Rahul Dravid, known as the 'wall' of Indian cricket, scored more than 13,000 Test runs. But he did not get a farewell Test match. He played his last Test in January 2012 against Australia in Adelaide. Dravid scored 13288 runs in 164 Tests in his career at an average of 52.31, which includes 36 centuries.

Yuvraj Singh's Test career was not like his white-ball career. But the former player made his integral contribution and was one of the important players of the team. Yuvraj also retired from the Test format without playing a farewell match. He played his last Test on 9 December 2012 against England. Yuvraj Singh played 40 Test matches for India, in which he scored 1900 runs at an average of 33.9.

4 - Gautam Gambhir

Current coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir played a big role in India's victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. He reportedly expected a farewell match for two years, but it did not happen and retired in 2018. Gautam Gambhir scored 4154 runs in 58 Tests, 5238 runs in 147 ODIs and 932 runs in 37 T20 matches for India.

Virender Sehwag was known for his aggressive attitude in Test cricket. He scored 8,586 Test runs for India, including three triple centuries. However, the legend had to retire without playing a farewell Test. Sehwag played his last Test match against Australia in 2013 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the Test format on 7 May 2025 this year. Like Virat Kohli, he will also be seen playing only in the ODI format. Rohit Sharma represented India in 67 Test matches, in which he scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.6. Hitman played the last Test match of his career on 26 December 2024 against Australia in Melbourne.
