The Indian Women’s cricket team made history by defeating Australia by five wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semifinal at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday, October 30.
With this amazing win, India entered the final against South Africa, which will be played at the same venue on November 2. Interestingly, India had last beaten Australia in a World Cup semifinal back in 2017.
Australia Set a Big Target
After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat first and scored a massive 338 runs in 49.5 overs.
- Phoebe Litchfield played a brilliant innings of 119 runs from 93 balls.
- Ellyse Perry made 77 runs
- Ashleigh Gardner added a quick 63 runs off 45 balls.
For India, Shree Charani bowled very well, taking 2 wickets for 49 runs.
Jemimah and Harmanpreet Lead Record Chase
India started the chase with confidence. Jemimah Rodrigues played the innings of her life, scoring 127 not out off 134 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur supported her with 89 runs from 88 balls.
Together, they built a strong 167-run partnership for the third wicket and guided India to victory — chasing 339 runs, the highest-ever successful chase in Women’s ODI history.

1. India Record Highest Chase in Women’s ODI History
India’s chase of 339 runs is now the highest successful run chase in Women’s ODIs.
The previous record was 331 runs, also by Australia against India earlier in this World Cup.
This was also the first time any team chased over 300 runs in an ODI World Cup knockout match - whether men’s or women’s.

2. India Score Their Highest Total in World Cup
India’s total of 341/5 is now their highest-ever score in a Women’s World Cup match.
Their earlier best was 340/3 against New Zealand at the same ground.
This is also the second-highest total against Australia in Women’s ODIs. The highest, 369 runs, was also scored by India earlier this year in Delhi.

3. Jemimah Rodrigues Breaks Smriti Mandhana’s Record
Jemimah’s unbeaten 127 runs is now the highest individual score by an Indian player in an ODI chase, beating Smriti Mandhana’s 125.
She also became only the second Indian woman after Harmanpreet Kaur to score a century in a World Cup knockout match.
Globally, she is just the second player ever to score a hundred while chasing in a World Cup knockout - after Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 148 in 2022*.

4. Highest World Cup Partnership Against Australia
The 167-run stand between Jemimah and Harmanpreet is now the highest partnership against Australia in World Cup history, beating the 157-run stand by Mithali Raj and Punam Raut in 2017.
It is also the third-highest partnership overall against Australia in Women’s ODIs.

5. Phoebe Litchfield Sets New Record
Before India’s chase, Phoebe Litchfield made her mark for Australia.
At 22 years and 195 days, she became the youngest player to score a century in a Women’s World Cup knockout match.
Her 77-ball hundred is also the fastest ever in a knockout match, beating the previous best of 90 balls by Harmanpreet Kaur (2017) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2022).

This semifinal win will be remembered as one of India’s greatest performances in Women’s cricket. The players showed courage, teamwork, and belief against the strongest team in the world.
