Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK's lowest team score in the IPL came against Mumbai in the 2013 season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first. The home side scored 139/5 in the first innings, thanks to skipper Sharma's unbeaten 39. CSK lost seven batsmen for single digits and were bowled out for just 79, losing the match by 60 runs. For Mumbai Indians, Mitchell Johnson and Pragyan Ojha picked up three wickets each to demolish the CSK batsmen.
In IPL 2022, CSK were asked to bat first by MI. The Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out the visitors for just 97 runs in 16 overs thanks to a brilliant bowling show led by Daniel Sams (3 wickets), Riley Meredith (2) and Kumar Karthikeya (2). Chennai Super Kings lost their top four batsmen for single digits, including two ducks. Dhoni scored an unbeaten 36 while the rest of the batsmen failed to convert them into big scores. MI won by five wickets.
In IPL 2025, CSK faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at their home ground, Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR opted to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. A superb bowling performance led by Sunil Narine (3 wickets), Varun Chakravarthy (2) and Harshit Rana (2) helped the visitors restrict Super Kings to 103/9 in 20 overs. MS Dhoni captained the side in this match. Shivam Dube top-scored for the team with 31 runs. They later lost the match by eight wickets with 59 balls to spare.
During IPL 2008, CSK were bowled out for just 109 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). In the 24th match of the tournament in Jaipur, MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. However, RR pacer Sohail Tanvir took six wickets to decimate the visiting batsmen. CSK lost openers Parthiv Patel and Stephen Fleming for zero and the batting collapsed after that. Suresh Raina (27) and Albie Morkel (42) added some crucial runs to the board. Later in the second innings, RR chased down the target with eight wickets to spare.
In the 2019 season, Mumbai Indians (MI) led by Rohit Sharma bundled out Chennai for just 109 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In that match, CSK captain Suresh Raina won the toss and decided to bowl first. MI opener Sharma scored a half-century to take MI to 155/4 in 20 overs. Chasing the target, CSK were bowled out for just 109 runs and lost the match by 46 runs.
