Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a spectacular start to the IPL 2026 season. RCB kicked off their campaign with a victory, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in their very first match. In this game, while Jacob Duffy wreaked havoc with his bowling, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal showcased their prowess with the bat, guiding the team to a one-sided victory. In the process, Kohli proved exactly why he is known as the Chase Master.

In the match played at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Hyderabad batting first after losing the toss posted a total of 201 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, aided by innings from Ishan Kishan (80) and Aniket Verma (43). In reply, RCB scored 203 runs for the loss of four wickets in 15.4 overs to clinch the victory. RCB now holds the record for the fastest chase of a 200+ run target in the IPL. In doing so, RCB surpassed Rajasthan Royals, who had chased down a 200+ run target in 15.5 overs against Gujarat Titans in 2025.
