The role of the captain is very important in making the team win. And here we will talk about some of the best bowling figures by the captain in the history of IPL. There has been only one time when a captain has taken five wickets in the tournament.

1. Hardik Pandya (MI) – 5/36

Hardik Pandya holds the record for the best bowling figures by a captain in IPL. He achieved this feat for Mumbai Indians against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in IPL 2025. The team lost the match. Batting first, LSG scored 203/8 and Hardik took 5/36. This was the first time in the history of the tournament that a captain took a five-wicket haul. Chasing the target, MI scored 191/5 and lost the match by 12 runs.

2. Anil Kumble (RCB) – 4/16

Anil Kumble has two spells in common and they are in the top three. After 4/16 in the 2009 final, Kumble returned bowling figures of 4/16 again against Deccan Chargers in the 2010 edition. This was the third place playoff game played at the DY Patil Stadium. Deccan Chargers were bowled out for just 82 in 18.3 overs and RCB won the match by scoring 86/1 in 13.5 overs. Kumble received the Player of the Match award.

3. Anil Kumble (RCB) – 4/16

Former Indian and RCB captain Anil Kumble was a very shrewd operator, he performed brilliantly as RCB captain against Deccan Chargers in the 2009 edition. It was the final of the 2009 edition when Kumble took 4/16 wickets in his four overs and the Chargers scored only 143/6 with the bat. Though RCB were unlucky and could score only 137/9 and lost the final and the trophy, Kumble created history.

4. JP Duminy (DD) – 4/17

JP Duminy was a specialist batsman who used to do part-time spin bowling. Who gave the best performance of his career in IPL. It was one of the best all-round performances in IPL game. Batting first, Duminy scored 54 runs off 41 balls and helped Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) to reach 167/4. Later captain Duminy came to bowl with the new ball and took 4 wickets for 17 runs in three overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad could only score 163/8 and lost the match by four runs. Apart from fifty and four wickets, Duminy also took two catches.

5. Shane Warne (RR) – 4/21

Record Shane achieved this feat in 2010. He bowled this spell against Deccan Chargers in Nagpur. It was a match-winning spell as Rajasthan Royals' batting collapsed. They were bowled out for just 159 runs. Chasing the score, the Chargers were at 112/3 in 13.4 overs. Then, Warne bowled a brilliant 4/21 and helped his team restrict the Chargers to 157 and RR won the game by just two runs.
