10 most surprising moments of IPL auction: The Indian Premier League 2025 Mega Auction (IPL 2025 Mega Auction) has ended. In this event held for two days (24 and 25 November) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a lot of money was showered on many players. At the same time, there were many players whose names were not even bid.

In the mega auction, all 10 teams bought a total of 182 players by spending Rs 639.15 crore. Many players have surprised in the auction, while some have created such history that will hardly be broken. Star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant's name is also in this list, who created history.

1 - Rishabh Pant bought for the highest price in IPL history

Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by bidding 27 crores. In this way, Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history. However, after buying Pant, Lucknow franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka said that a little more money was spent. He had to spend more money than he had thought.

Actually, during the auction, Lucknow team had bid Rs 20.75 crore for Rishabh Pant. Here Delhi Capitals (DC) used the RTM card to take Pant back. To include Pant in its team, Lucknow increased Pant's bid by 6.25 crores and directly made Pant's bid Rs 27 crore. In such a situation, Delhi withdrew its hands and finally Lucknow team won the bid. In this way, Pant was bought by Lucknow team.

2 - Shreyas Iyer also got 26.75 crores

Punjab Kings (PBKS) team bought former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer in their team by bidding Rs 26.75 crores. In this way, Shreyas became the most expensive player in IPL history. But within the next 20 minutes, Rishabh Pant broke his record. But questions were raised on Shreyas getting such a high amount, because when he was included in the KKR team, he was given Rs 12.25 crores last year. However, by buying him, Punjab got the advantage that now they have got a captain for the team.

3 - KKR gave 23.75 crores to Venkatesh Iyer

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opened their purse on Venkatesh Iyer after the departure of Shreyas Iyer. KKR gave 23.75 crores to Venkatesh Iyer. The star player was playing for the KKR team till last season. But this time KKR did not retain Venkatesh. In such a situation, KKR had to put in all its strength to buy Venkatesh in the auction.

4 - David Warner did not find a buyer even on the second day

In 2016, David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the title under his captaincy. He entered the IPL auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, but no one bought him. The special thing was that on the first day of IPL, there was a bid on his name, but no one showed any interest in buying this 38-year-old player who has been the captain of Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers.

5 - Kane Williamson also remained unsold

During IPL 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid Rs 14 crore to Kane Williamson. He was included in the Gujarat Titans team last year for a price of Rs 2 crore. This time he did not find any buyer, while his base price was 2 crore. Overall, Kane Williamson was also among those players who were not given any bid in the IPL 2025 auction. One reason for this was that Williamson could play only 3 matches in the 2024 and 2023 IPL seasons. His getting injured in the middle of the IPL was also a reason due to which he remained empty handed.

6 - Prithvi Shaw was once compared to Tendulkar, remained unsold in IPL

Prithvi Shaw was once compared to the great player and God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar. Even the ICC (International Cricket Council) named him as 'the next Sachin Tendulkar' in a video. But he also remained empty handed in the IPL auction. Whereas his base price was just Rs 75 lakh. Prithvi Shaw, who turned 25 on November 9, was playing in the IPL for Delhi Capitals from IPL 2022-24, for which he got Rs 7.50 crore every season.

7 - Sarfaraz Khan also did not find a buyer, Mushir sold

Sarfaraz Khan, who is included in the Indian Test team, was also not bought by anyone in the IPL auction. While his base price was just Rs 75 lakh. In 2023, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for just Rs 75 lakh. On the other hand, his brother Mushir Khan was included in the team by Punjab Kings at a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

8 - Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history, became the youngest player in IPL auction

On the second and final day of the IPL mega auction, at the age of 13 years and eight months (13 years 243 days), Vaibhav became the youngest cricketer to be selected by a franchise when Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.10 crore. Vaibhav is currently in Dubai for the Under-19 Asia Cup.

When Vaibhav Suryavanshi's name came up for auction, there was a war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals to buy him. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's price kept increasing from 30 lakhs, which stopped at 1.10 crores. This last bid was made by the Rajasthan team. Here Delhi accepted defeat and the Rajasthan team won. Now Vaibhav Suryavanshi will play for the Rajasthan team captained by Sanju Samson in the IPL 2025 season.

Suryavanshi is the youngest player to be included in the auction list this time. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on 27 March 2011 and his current age is 13 years and 244 days (26 November 2024). Vaibhav Suryavanshi plays domestic cricket for Bihar. Vaibhav made his first class debut against Mumbai in January this year.

9 - James Anderson was not bought in IPL auction

This was the first time in the history of IPL that James Anderson registered himself for auction. England fast bowler James Anderson registered himself for the IPL 2025 auction at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore. But no team bought him either. Actually, if any team included this 42-year-old player in its squad, it would have been a profitable deal for that team, because even if Anderson did not play the match, he could have given bowling tips to the bowlers of that team.

42-year-old Anderson has not played any T20 match since 2014 and has never been a part of IPL. But this time he had made up his mind to enter the IPL. Anderson retired from cricket in July 2024 and played the role of bowling coach with the England team.

10 - Arjun Tendulkar narrowly escaped being unsold

Arjun Tendulkar was not sold in the first round, but was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second round. Mumbai bought Arjun for Rs 30 lakh. He was included in their team at a base price of Rs. Arjun Tendulkar was first sold in the 2021 IPL season. Between 2022 and 2024, he was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) in every season at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
