Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 244 runs in 50 overs. In reply, India scored 14 runs without loss in 2 overs, but the match remained inconclusive due to rain.
A reserve day was kept for the final. The final match took place again on 30 September, but then the game was started afresh on the reserve day. This time again Sri Lanka batted first and scored 222 runs in 50 overs. India scored 38 runs after playing 8.4 overs and it rained on this day too. The match remained inconclusive and both the teams had to share the trophy.
