Indian domestic cricket tournament Duleep Trophy is going to start from 28 August. Tilak Verma can captain the South Zone team in this. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has brought back the zone format for the upcoming season, in which a total of 6 teams are going to participate. The names of these 6 teams will be East Zone, West Zone, South Zone, North Zone, Central Zone and North-East Zone. Now a report in Indian Express has revealed that Tilak Verma is going to captain the South Zone team.
Tilak Verma appointed South Zone captain for Duleep Trophy 2025
According to the Indian Express, Tilak Verma will be the captain of the South Zone team, while Mohammad Azharuddin will play the role of vice-captain. The South Zone team will include many veteran players like Sai Kishore, Devdutt Padikkal, N Jagadeesan and Vijaykumar Vysakh. Sai Sudarshan, who is playing the Test series in England, has been dropped from the team.
This will not be the first time Tilak Verma will captain a team. He was seen captaining the Hyderabad team several times in the last season. Last year there was news that the BCCI might completely abolish the zonal system, but now the same zonal system has been brought back. This decision was taken in the BCCI meeting held in March this year, which will be implemented in the upcoming domestic season.
6 zonal teams have been formed in the Duleep Trophy, which includes players from 38 domestic teams. The Duleep Trophy will start on August 28 and the final match will be played on September 11. In the last season, the teams were named India A, India B, India C and India D, in which India A won the title.
