On the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a century in just 36 balls. In this prestigious 50-over tournament, the Bihar batsman set a record for being the youngest player to score a List A century at the age of 14. Interestingly, this century, scored in a format other than T20, broke a 39-year-old record held by Pakistan's Zahoor Elahi. The young player achieved this remarkable feat on Wednesday during the match between Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi.

At the age of 14 years and 272 days, he made a spectacular debut in Bihar's opening match against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, scoring a century in just 36 balls. Suryavanshi then went on to break South African legend AB de Villiers' record for the fastest 150 runs in men's List A cricket, achieving the feat in 59 balls, before eventually being dismissed for 190 runs off 84 balls.
His innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes, and it was only his seventh List A match since his debut in December 2024. It was one of three centuries scored by Bihar players, contributing to a massive total of 574-6 in 50 overs.
Pakistan's Zahoor Elahi set this record in 1986 while playing for Pakistan Automobiles against Railways in the Wills Cup, at the age of 15 years and 209 days. However, India's Vaibhav has now surpassed him by achieving this feat at the age of 14 years and 272 days.
Afghan batsman Riaz Hassan is third on the list of youngest players to score a century in List A cricket. At the age of 16 years and 9 days, Hassan achieved this feat in a match between Boost and Band-e-Amir Region.
In a first-class match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy played in Rawalpindi in 2000-01, Usman Tariq scored a century for Islamabad against Gujranwala. At just 16 years and 91 days old, Tariq's innings placed him fourth on this list.
On March 8, 2006, in a match between the Karachi Dolphins and the Lahore Lions in Lahore, Nasir Jamshed scored 117 runs off 114 balls and earned his place on this list. At 16 years and 92 days old, Jamshed was the fifth youngest batsman to score a List A century.
